On March 16, 2005 RAMP hosted it's 3rd Annual Elder & Youth Symposium. The Elders were concerned that our people are not gathering firewood for the lodges and ceremonies. As a result, RAMP took the challenge and developed the "Keeping the Fire Project".
On July 22, 2005, Elders, youth and RAMP staff travelled to Prince Albert and loaded a semi truck full of firewood. This firewood was loaded at Piapot First Nations and will be dispersed as requested.
This event was made possible with support from:
Directorate - Justice Canada
Corrections & Public Safety
Ron Lehner - Wood
Preserves - Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Derek Francis Trucking- Piapot First Nations, Saskatchewan
Pizza Hut - Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Prince Albert Friendship Centre, Youth Summer Program, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
Help Eliminate Auto Theft Program, Regina, Saskatchewan

The crew loaded approximately 12-14 cords of firewood. As of August 9, 2005, portions of this wood have been distributed to the following:
· Mike Pinay
- Community Sweat Lodge - Regina
· Larry Oaks - Nekaneet Community Sweat Lodge
· Eddy Lavallee - Youth Culture Camp Boys 12 to 16 years of age
RAMP held its first Elder's Gathering in March of 2003 to further recognize the importance of Elders in our communities, to promote greater understanding of RAMP's community and cultural goals, and to encourage continued Elder participation in its programs.
In March of 2004,
the second Elder's Gathering was held with the same goals in mind as the
previous year. This year, RAMP also aimed to:
1) Encourage greater youth and Elder interaction
2) Facilitate a more specific learning experience for Gathering participants.
